Personal Injury Legal Terms Defined – Glossary

As a Colorado personal injury and accident trial lawyer, I am frequently asked by clients and others seeking information, “What does this mean?” There are many words, legal and medical, that people hear for the first time after they or a loved one has been injured by the negligence of another. Many lawyers take for granted that people can or should understand the language used in personal injury cases. As a result many injury victims are too embarrassed to ask their lawyer what certain terms mean. I have done my best to include definitions of words that are frequently encountered in personal injury cases. In addition, I have provided some commentary to provide context when needed. A complete list of legal terms can and does merit it’s own dictionary and it is not my intent to recreate Black’s Law Dictionary here. If you have a question or need help understanding a word your lawyer or doctor have used and do not see it here, give me a call or send me an email and I’ll be happy to help.
