Alcohol Impairment Suspected in Fatal Car Accident in Fremont

A deadly auto accident in Freemont County is thought to have been caused by an underage drunk driver, according to authorities at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.

As the latest police reports explains, the car accident occurred in Rockvale, a small town outside of Florence, at around 9 pm on Monday, April 25^th. When Fremont Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the crash scene, they reportedly discovered a 2001 Ford Taurus entangled with a 1999 Dodge truck.

Based on the evidence at the scene, it’s believed that the driver of the Taurus – a 20-year-old man from Cañon City – slammed into the parked pickup truck that wasn’t occupied at the time. In the course of the wreck, however, three people were seriously injured, and one person was killed. The individual who suffered fatal injuries was a 22-year-old man who was riding in the Taurus.

Few other details about the causes of the crash have been released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.

However, authorities have reported that the underage driver operating the Taurus has been arrested and charged with multiple criminal offenses – including DUI, vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and reckless driving. The man is reportedly being held without bond at the Fremont County Jail.
